Hector’s Auto Repair is a certified auto repair shop in South Los Angeles owned and operated by Hector Linares. Hector immigrated to Los Angeles from El Salvador in the late 1990s when he was 20 years old. Coming from a country with only about 400 cars, Hector’s ambition was much bigger than his homeland. Once in L.A., Hector immediately started working toward his dream of becoming an automotive technician.
Going to mechanic school at night and working during the day, Hector learned his automotive basics, and to this day, he still attends training courses to stay up-to-date on the latest technological advancements in the auto industry. Now he has many certificates, and even teaches at the first school he attended after arriving in L.A.
Hector gained experience working as the top tech at large dealerships, focusing primarily on European and Asian vehicles. While he was honing his skills, he was also driven to take a more honest, customer-focused approach to automotive service. With the support of his family and friends, he opened Hector’s Auto Repair in 2000. His very first customer still brings his cars (and his family’s cars) to the shop today.
No car leaves the building without Hector’s final approval. As head tech at the shop (along with being the owner), he also does all the vehicle diagnostics and smog checks—and is always there to greet customers with a smile. Hector has more than 15 years of training, from the basics to advanced programming, and 27 years of hands-on experience working on vehicles. Before opening his own shop, he was the head tech at a Toyota dealership for eight years, and he worked for four years at an all-European auto repair center. Hector is ASE Master certified and hybrid certified.
As the owner’s son, Hector Jr. has apprenticed at the shop since he was nine years old. He’s also earned ASE certification, and attended many years of schooling to back up his on-the-job training. Along with answering customer questions and writing up work orders, Hector Jr. handles diagnostics and smog checks when Hector Sr. is out of the shop.
Uriel is one of the youngest techs at Hector’s auto repair, but he’s already been here for six years and he’s certified for European vehicles and imports. He’s also responsible, never missing a day and never failing to hold down his workload—most days, he’s the first guy in the door and the last one out at night. Uriel is also friendly, helpful, and great to talk to.
Juan has more than 12 years of auto repair experience, which means he’s a fast and efficient worker on top of being very knowledgeable. His specialty is vintage vehicles, and he will gladly answer any questions about maintaining a classic car. If he doesn’t have the answer, he will find it. Juan always treats customers with respect and is very friendly.
